Program:

Set in the English gutting sheds of a late Victorian cattle market slaughterhouse, this cutting edge drama portrays women at the bottom of the heap. When crusading do-gooders succeed in doing something about their dreadful working conditions, the boisterous, beer-swelling gut girls find themselves with disturbing new life options. Historically, the gut girls were quite controversial. Gutting pork and cattle in ankle deep blood, the women were most likely attracted to the salary and social freedom the job provided. Unlike the household servants of the time, the gut girls had their evenings to themselves. They were known for frequenting taverns and buying fancy clothes, most likely because they had time to spend their earnings, unlike their contemporaries in service. The controversy with the gut girls was caused less by the grotesqueness of their work than by the power their wages gave them. The cast includes Stella Tryon, Allison Eberly, Jocelyn Pronovost, Kelly Musson, Erin Watson, Sarah Robson, Matt Frazier, and Daniel Canaday.

Steve Giltner is scenic designer, Ana Marie Salamat is costume designer, Thomas Garcia is lighting designer, Sara Lamb is the make-up designer, and Nathan Jones is the sound designer.
