He is currently working on a CD of piano music based on Christmas themes, with selections by J. S. Bach, Liszt, Dello Joio, Mendelssohn, and Messiaen.

Watson's current research topics involve psychosomatic principles and applications in piano performance and pedagogy. He regularly presents clinics on "The Pianist and the Use of Himself," "Practicing Without an Instrument," and basic movement principles in pedagogy and performance. He has been published in Clavier magazine and MTNA Pedagogy Saturday Proceedings, while his recordings are on the Educo label.

As a church musician, he has served as organist and pianist for over 25 years. He has conducted workshops on service playing, preparation for service, and the role of music in the Protestant church service.
