Vietnamese Service Women
Vietnamese service women were also detained
in the reeducation camp for several years, depending on
their work and position. Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh
Thuy spent 13 years first in prisons, then in reeducation
camps. Her husband was also detained for six and a half
years in other concentration camps for men. They left their
children, ages 3, 5, 7 with her elderly parents. During
her 13 year prison term, her children visited her only once
because their grandparents could not afford the transportation
cost for their visit.
