Inlaid Chairs and Table with Scrolls

This installation represents a typical Vietnamese furnished living room with armchairs decorated with pearl shells. Words written on the hanging scrolls were carefully dictated by scholars; each sentence was written as a contradiction of the sentence on the other parallel scroll.

Here, the parallel scrolls read:

“This foreign land is vast but why does it look narrow.
The homeland is just a corner but it is immense with nostalgia.”
