Campus Leader Named President Elect of California County Boards of Education

Jack Bedell Adds Another Title

Jack Bedell, has been elected president-elect of the California County Boards of Education.

The veteran professor of sociology, who is currently serving a two-year term as chair of the Anthropology Department, has served as a member of the Orange County Board of Education and been active in the state agency for almost four years. Previously, he served as president and a member of the Fullerton School District Board of Education.

On campus Bedell has served five one-year terms as the chair of the Academic Senate, most recently 2004-05 and 2005-06. During his last term heading the senate he focused attention on reviewing and updating numerous university policies as well as enhancing faculty recruitment and increasing and nurturing civility on campus.

A member of the faculty since 1969, he has served as Sociology Department chair, head of the statewide Academic Senate, acting associate vice president of academic affairs and acting director of the Faculty Development Center. He was acting associate vice president for the CSU from 1984 to 1986.
