Celebrating Black History Month

Campus Groups Host Discussion and Awards Ceremony

What: As part of Black History Month, Cal State Fullerton campus organizations are hosting various events, including a discussion on whether a black political voice exists in 2012. The panel discussion, sponsored by the university’s African American Resource Center, and other events are free and open to the public.

More: “Is There a Black Political Voice in 2012?” will be moderated by Gregory “Chris” Brown, assistant professor of criminal justice. The panelists are Zahra Ahmed, a UC Irvine political science doctoral candidate; John Belleci, a Cal State Fullerton history graduate student; Nehasi Ronald Lee, a member of the Student Senate of California Community Colleges, and Scott J. Spitzer, CSUF associate professor of political science.

In addition to the panel discussion, CSUF student group Alliance for the Preservation of African Consciousness and the Brother's Movement, will host the fifth annual “Why I Love Black Women” honorary celebration and ceremony Feb. 23. The formal dinner event will be held in the Titan Student Union's Portola Pavilion.

Additional: The African American Resource Center, located in Room 222 of the Humanities-Social Sciences Building, is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The center’s staff members welcome visitors. Currently, students are posting messages about what Black History Month means to them on a wall in the center.

Parking: $2 per hour or $8 for a daily permit. Details are available online.
