Cal State Fullerton’s Mihaylo College of Business and Economics and its Center for Insurance Studies hosts the April 10 actuary leadership forum: “Industry Change and Sustainable Development: Trends, Challenges and Opportunities.” The free program is open to the public.

“Actuary Challenges and Enterprise Risk Management” is presented by Stephen D'Arcy, holder of the Robitaille Endowed Chair in Risk and Insurance in CSUF's Mihaylo College of Business and Economics

12:20 p.m.     
“Actuary Trends, Regulatory Challenges and Development Opportunities in Auto, Life, Health, Commercial and Worker's Compensation,” will be a panel discussion with Gary Falde, chief actuary, Pacific Life; Brian Deephouse, chief actuary, AAA of Southern California; Harold Schneider, vice president and corporate actuary, Farmers Insurance; and Rob Edwards, staff vice president and actuary, WellPoint. Coordinator is Jeff Jolley, lecturer in finance.

Why:     

“Actuary is a very sophisticated, but quite applicable, quantitative area in the risk management and insurance fields. This is the perfect time to review where the field is going and where the opportunities are,” said Weili Lu, professor of finance and director of the Center for Insurance Studies. “The Center for Insurance Studies is happy to be able to offer programs that help the community-at-large, as well as our students, who will soon be in the workplace.”

Background:     

Cal State Fullerton’s actuary program is a joint venture of the Center for Insurance Studies and university’s Mathematics Department. It was established eight years ago with the strong support from actuary professionals and insurance companies, including Mercury and Pacific Life.
