“The practice of medicine is an art, so it is very fitting that the Student Health and Counseling Center present this art show as a medium to promote healing of ailments that may be affecting the viewer’s heart and soul,” said Howard Wang, executive director of the Student Health and Counseling Center and associate vice president for student affairs.

The exhibit features 40 artists, most of who are current students, and 104 works of art, some of which will be available for purchase. A portion of the proceeds benefits student-artist scholarships and the Art 4 Health program.

Artist Quotes:
Student Jenna Nustad of Garden Grove submitted “Heart of California,” a printmaking piece. Her inspiration came from visits in the Sierra Nevada and the soothing effect of nature. “I hope that my artwork influences others to get outside and to see the world around them. There is so much to see!”

Using color pencil, student Jenny Fan of Fullerton created “Serenity” for the exhibit. “In life, our souls always try to search for peace and beauty, despite the craziness of our lives. This artwork reveals that it can be found after we have been cleansed of all the impurities of our lives.”

“Under the Dwarf Maple Tree” is the title of Kurt Weston’s photography piece, which depicts a landscape transformed by the colors of autumn. In his work, he uses techniques that enhance color frequencies found in nature but not visible to the human eye. “Color theorists postulate color frequencies have a positive effect on human emotions and psyche, which have the ability to activate latent regenerative healing properties,” said Weston, a lecturer in art.
