Cal State Fullerton Retains Top 10 Status in National Magazine's Ranking of the West's Top Public Universities
August, 20, 2007 :: No. 21
Cal State Fullerton begins fall semester classes ranked — for the seventh consecutive year — in the top 10 in the West on the U.S. News & World Report’s list of “Top Public Universities —Master’s.”
The newsweekly’s “America’s Best Colleges, 2008 Edition,” available today on newsstands, ranks Cal State Fullerton 10th in the West, along with the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
This section of the rankings highlights public institutions that award master’s and bachelor’s degrees but few, if any, doctorates.
In the broader “Best Universities—Master’s” category, incorporating both public and private institutions, Cal State Fullerton ranks 37th among 127 institutions in the West selected for the list. Overall, 574 universities in four geographic regions throughout the nation are ranked.
The rankings are based on “several key measures of quality,” as reported in the magazine. The characteristics measured and their percentages of the overall score in this category are: peer assessment (25%), graduation and retention rates (25%), faculty resources (20%), student selectivity (15%), financial resources (10%) and alumni giving (5%).
Cal State Fullerton is included on the magazine’s online list of the nation’s “Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs” and least expensive public schools. Among master’s degree-granting universities in the West, CSUF is cited among those with the highest graduation rates, lowest acceptance rates, plus ethnic and economic diversity. In addition, Fullerton is ranked among the top 100 campuses with the most international students and among universities whose freshmen are the most likely to return.
Princeton University again tops U.S. News & World Report’s much-publicized list of the nation’s “Top Schools,” which includes only those with doctoral programs.
