Special Events Launch Commencement Season at Cal State Fullerton
University kicks off commencement season with a series of special events in recognition of graduates' achievements.

May 4, 2006 :: No. 237

As Cal State Fullerton students put the finishing touches on final projects and prepare for semester finals, the university kicks off the commencement season with a series of special events in recognition of graduates’ achievements.

Among the festivities scheduled this month are:
Thursday, May 11 from 5-8:30 p.m. —Seventh annual Pilipino American Graduation Celebration will feature keynote addresses by Philippine community and labor activist Velma Veloria and CSUF alumna Donna Delfin, founder and executive director of Katipunan-USA, a nonprofit humanitarian organization. Friday, May 12 from 11:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m. — 2006 Irvine Campus Graduation Recognition Reception with guest speaker Judith Anderson, CSUF executive vice president. Cal State Fullerton Irvine Campus courtyard. For more information, call (949) 936-1650.

Friday, May 12 from 6-8:30 p.m. — Second annual Lavender Pride Recognition Ceremony. Guest speaker is Susanne Valdez, a CSUF alumna and preschool director. Portola Pavilion, Titan Student Union. For additional information, call 657-278-4944.

Saturday, May 13 from 2-4:30 p.m.— Fourth annual Asian Pacific Islander Graduate Recognition Ceremony with keynoter Jeff Chang, author of “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop,” on the hip hop generation, and founder of Color Lines magazine. Thursday, May 18 from 2-4:30 p.m. — International Student Graduation Celebration. Guest speaker is Paula Parker, president of the North Orange County International Friendship Council. Portola Pavilion, Titan Student Union. For more information, call 657-278-2787.
          
Friday, May 19 at 5 p.m. — Credential Ceremony, lawn west of Engineering Building.

Saturday, May 20 from 5-10:30 p.m.— 18th annual Chicano/Latino Graduate Recognition Ceremony with keynote address by Tomas Arciniega, special assistant to the CSU Chancellor and president emeritus of Cal State Bakersfield. Sunday, May 21 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. — 18th annual Pan African Student Recognition Ceremony. Keynote speaker is Joseph L. White, professor emeritus in social sciences at UC Irvine. Lawn west of Engineering Building. For more information, call 657-278-4944.

Saturday, May 27 from 1 p. m. — ROTC Commissioning Ceremony. Keynote speaker is Army Major Gen. John R. Hawkins III, assistant deputy chief of staff for personnel, Department of the Army. Portola Pavilion, Titan Student Union. For more information, call 657-278-5545.

Cal State Fullerton’s 47th annual universitywide commencement ceremonies are May 27-28. An Honors Convocation will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 26, in the Meng Concert Hall of the university’s Performing Arts Center.
