President Milton A. Gordon Appointed to American Council on Education Commission
Cal State Fullerton President Milton A. Gordon will be sharing his expertise and leadership regarding global education as a recently appointed member of the American Council on Education’s Commission on International Initiatives. He will serve a term of three years.
The commission serves as an advisory and strategic planning body in developing policy positions on international education initiatives, conducting research, sponsoring programs to help member institutions advance internationalization and representing U.S. higher education internationally.

Gordon“I look forward to working on the Commission on International Initiatives to further higher education efforts nationwide to prepare college and university students for success in global workplaces,” Gordon said. “For more than 25 years, Cal State Fullerton has pursued partnerships with universities around the globe. Today, the university continues to be in the forefront of being a higher education institution with an international interest in efforts to create global education opportunities for our students and faculty members.”
To date, Cal State Fullerton has collaborations with 78 institutions of higher education in 26 countries. Poland and Bhutan are new countries added this year.
The commission guides the Washington, D.C.-based American Council on Education in its work in:
• Providing policy guidance to U.S. institutions wishing to internationalize their programs.
• Working with other associations to increase support for international education activities from the federal government, state governments and the private sector.
• Working with national and regional associations of universities abroad on issues of common interest to U.S. college and university presidents and their counterparts in other countries.
Commissioners are members of the Leadership Network for International Education, which brings together college and university presidents and chief academic officers to discuss leadership strategies for internationalizing campuses and curricula, as well as share issues and developments in international education.
Founded in 1918, the American Council on Education is the major coordinating body for the nation’s higher education institutions, representing more than 1,600 college and university presidents, and more than 200 related associations, nationwide. It seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and influence public policy through advocacy, research and program initiatives.
