Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary, a unique nature preserve
operated by Cal State Fullerton in south Orange County, will
be the scene of a series of workshops and special events May-August
that are designed to acquaint residents with the birds and plants
found in rustic Modjeska Canyon. |

Rd., near the end of the road. Take Santiago Canyon Road to
Modjeska Canyon Road and proceed to the sanctuary, which is
near the fire station. |

Saturday, May 8, 9 -11 a.m.
Senior ranger and native plant expert Ginny McVickars will
lead a wildflower walk into the Modjeska Reserve. Visitors
will learn about the many blooming native plants in the area.

Saturday, May 15, 10 – 11 a.m. Min-Li
Chang will talk on “What Dangers Lurk in Still Waters,”
a presentation dealing with mosquitoes, related diseases and
habitat. Fee: $3 with advance reservations, $4 at the door.

Saturday, May 15, 1 - 3 p.m. “Meet
the Artist.” Bruce K.M. Meyers, a graduate art major
at Cal State Fullerton, will unveil a new diorama mural depicting
the native habitat of the canyons. Refreshments. Open to the
public free of charge.Saturday, June 26, 10 – 11:30
a.m. Birkin Newell, Tucker resident manager, will lead a nature
walk that focuses on the diversity of local native plants.

Saturday, June 26, 4 – 6 p.m. Volunteers
are needed to help spruce up the sanctuary at “Tucker
Volunteer Work Day.” Hot dogs and refreshments will
be provided to all helpers at 6 p.m. Bring gloves and garden

Saturday, July 31, 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Artist
Patt Blair will show participants how to create a beautiful
silk scarf using paints, natural sunlight and foliage from
the sanctuary. Blair is the instructor and workshop coordinator
for “Soft Expressions” art and quilt supply store
in Orange. Fee: $3 with advance reservations, $4 at the door.

Saturday, Aug. 14, 10 – 11 a.m. Andrea
Murray, a graduate student from the Cal State Fullerton Anthropology
Department, will speak on “American Indians Who Lived
in the Tucker Vicinity and Within Orange County.” Fee:
