Background:

“I chose Vivaldi’s spectacular ‘Gloria’ for the women to perform” shares Wolverton, “to give them the opportunity to sing a major work that is rarely sung by women only, and to perform with a chamber orchestra. Interestingly,” he continues, ”this performance represents an arguably more historically rendition of the piece than is generally heard.”

The university Women's Choir is a large, 95 member, non-select ensemble that serves both music majors and non-majors. Under the direction of Vance D. Wolverton since 1989, the choir was selected in 1994 (Sacramento) and 1998 (Reno) to perform at the Western Division Convention of the American Choral Directors Association and has performed twice for the California Music Educators Association annual conference in Ontario in 2000 and Pasadena in 2002. The choir performs a wide variety of repertoire representing all historical periods and styles.

The Men’s Chorus offers an all-male opportunity for music majors and other students across the campus to participate in this exciting vocal ensemble. Under the direction of Jesse Knowles, the ensemble offers two campus concerts each year.
