Cal State Fullerton Celebrates 48th Annual Commencement
More than 35,000 expected May 19-20 to cheer parade of caps and gowns.

More than 9,500 students are eligible to participate in Cal State Fullerton’s May 19-20 commencement ceremonies, which are expected to attract more than 35,000 family members and friends to campus.
Keynote speakers for the 48th annual universitywide celebration will be actor Robert David Hall, who plays coroner Albert Robbins on the CBS television drama “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” at the Saturday, May 19 ceremony, and Lucy Jones, scientist-in-charge for the U.S. Geological Survey earthquake activities in Southern California, who will address attendees Sunday, May 20.
Cal State Fullerton graduate Dan Black of the Class of ’67 will be awarded an honorary doctorate May 20. A physics graduate-turned successful entrepreneur, Black underwrites programs and scholarships to benefit students at his alma mater. He has given more then $4.2 million in cash and pledges to the university’s College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
The May 19 and 20 commencement ceremonies will begin at 8 a.m. on the sports fields north of Titan Gymnasium. College and department exercises will follow at various campus locations.
The Honors Convocation to recognize student achievements will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 18, in the Meng Concert Hall of the university’s Performing Arts Center. Student achievement also will be recognized during a variety of special recognition ceremonies scheduled this month, including:
- Wednesday, May 9, 7-9 p.m., Third Annual Lavender Pride Recognition Ceremony, Portola Pavilion, Titan Student Union
- Thursday, May 10, 6-8:30 p.m., Pilipino American Graduation Celebration, Portola Pavilion, Titan Student Union
- Friday, May 11, 6:30-9 p.m., Fifth Annual Asian & Pacific Islander Graduate Recognition Ceremony with San Francisco attorney Dale Minami as keynote speaker, Portola Pavilion, Titan Student Union
- Saturday, May 12, noon-2 p.m., 19th annual Pan-African Student Recognition Ceremony with Orange County Superior Court Judge Karen Robinson as keynote speaker, on the Engineering and Computer Science Lawn
- Saturday, May 12, 5:30-8:30 p.m., 19th annual Chicano/Latino Graduate Recognition Celebration, Portola Pavilion, Titan Student Union
- Friday, May 18 from 5-7 p.m., Credential Candidate Recognition Ceremonies, Engineering and Computer Science Lawn
