2005 Spring Season
February 22, 2005 :: No. 134
The spring season opens with the must see American
drama, The American
Clock by the late American playwright Arthur
Miller. This brilliantly theatrical kaleidoscopic drama is
a study of America during the early years of the Great Depression.
Directed by professional director and CSUF professor Joseph
Arnold, it runs February 25-March 6, 2005 in the Little Theatre.
Professional director and CSUF professor, James
R. Taulli directs Constance Congdon’s dark comedy, Tales
of the Lost Formicans. Part dream play, part science
fiction farce, this dark comedy contemplates American angst
with wry wit, power, and a freshness of spirit. It runs in
rotating repertory with Nickel and Dimed
March 11-April 9, 2005 in the Arena Theatre. The show contains
mature language and sexual content.
Nickel and Dimed, by Joan Holden and based
on the book by Barbara Ehrenreich, explores the harsh realities
of surviving in America for low level workers who must choose
to eat or pay rent. Professional director and CSUF faculty
member Donn Finn directs this social drama. The show runs
in rotating repertory with Tales of the Lost Formicans in
the Arena Theatre March 12-April 10, 2005.
The Spring Dance Theatre, coordinated by Gladys
Kares, celebrates the joy of dance with choreography by CSUF
alumni, faculty and students. It runs April 7-10, 2005 in
the Little Theatre.
The riveting operatic masterpiece, Dialogues
of the Carmelites by Francis Poulenc and George Bernanos,
is a moving and tragic story that centers on the battle of
religion and nationality. Directed by professional director
Dean Hess, with musical direction by Janet Smith and Mark
Salters, this fearful tale of faith and martyrdom runs April
22-May 1, 2005 in the Little Theatre. This is a “College
of the Arts” production.
The season ends with the wonderfully bizarre,
but poignant and haunting stories of the musical, Weird
Romance. Directed by new CSUF faculty member and
professional director Eve Himmelheber, with musical direction
by Mitchell Hanlon, this show includes two one-act musicals
that sport the brilliant collaboration of Alan Menken, David
Spencer and Alan Brennert. The show runs May 13-22, 2005 in
the Recital Hall.
