New CSUF Business Program Offers International Experience
Business Europe Study Tour (BEST) program enables students to travel to five European countries and get insight into European economics, business and management practices.

February 8, 2005 :: No. 126

The College of Business and Economics at Cal State Fullerton, in collaboration with three European universities, is offering a special summer education experience for students.

The Business Europe Study Tour (BEST) features travel through five European countries as part of a program that combines academics with first-hand insight into the European economy, as well as business and management practices.

“I’m very excited that we’re able to offer this opportunity to our students,” said Katrin Harich, professor of marketing who has been working with Nurtingen University in Germany to establish the program. Other participating universities are ISCID Universite du Littoral in France and the University of Applied Sciences Solothurn in Switzerland.

“Cal State Fullerton and the College of Business and Economics have always taken pride in having a global outlook. We have several international agreements with universities, where students and faculty members have the opportunity to expand their skills and knowledge,” said Anil Puri, dean of the College of Business and Economics. He will award $1,000 scholarships — funded by the Dean’s Advisory Board — to the first 20 business majors who registered for BEST. “This program similarly will offer our students a wonderful understanding of the global business outlook.”

During the June tour, participants will attend lectures on current issues, theories and management solutions; visit such companies as Porsche, Louis Vuitton, Lloyds of London and Mercedes; and meet with officials of the Bank of England, the Swiss National Bank, the European Union and World Trade Organization.

“Program participants also will experience the richness of Europe’s diversity,” Harich noted. “When they meet with managers, executives and heads of governments from five countries, they will gain a greater awareness and understanding of the global experience.”

The program is open to all Cal State Fullerton students. Already, 20 business majors have signed on for BEST’s inaugural class, which can accommodate 35. Participants earn three units of credit upon completion of the program.
