Why We Teach:

Michelle Skidmore

For Michelle Skidmore ’03 (M.A. education), one of five to receive Orange County Teacher of the Year honors, teaching allows her to contribute directly to the future of the nation. “Teachers are the very foundation of the American dream,” Skidmore says. “I believe I have a responsibility to be a model for lifelong learning, the high energy pursuit of excellence, and an appreciation for diversity and change.”

Staying one step ahead of her students keeps Skidmore on her toes. She meets the challenge by developing Power Point presentations that illustrate key points of her lesson plans. “And nothing spurs my desire to go the extra mile more than a parent who exclaims that their child has never learned so much in school, or that their child used to dread school and now loves it.”

The knowledge and confidence she gained in the master’s progeram at CSUF “literally changed my life,” Skidmore recalls. “In comparison to my collegues, I have been continually supported at CSUF in my quest for opportunities to contribute to the field of education.”
