More Buzz on the Boys of Summer

In the heady days since the Titans' victory in the 2004 College World Series—while Fullerton's boys of summer vacationed, played in summer leagues and collected new honors—university officials worked to ensure the continued success of next year's team.

The combined efforts of Athletics, University Advancement and Alumni Relations in generating support for Cal State Fullerton athletes gained momentum even after the team attained ultimate success. As a result, private giving to Athletics reached nearly $300,000, a significant new high for the current program.

About $7,500 of that total was generated during the CWS at Titan House—the home-away-from-home for Titans just down the road from Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha. Gifts came from alumni, friends and players' relatives who stopped in for barbecued ribs, a rest between games, or to volunteer to paint a poster or two in support of the team.

In other news:
• The San Jose Sports Hall of Fame selected former Cal State Fullerton pitcher Jason Windsor as its 2004 Male Amateur Athlete of the Year. Windsor attended San Jose's Leigh High School and West Valley College in Saratoga.

• 14 members of the baseball team compiled at least a 3.0 (B) grade point average in 12 or more units to earn recognition on the Cal State Fullerton Athletic Department's Spring 2004 Honor Roll.

• Former UC Irvine assistant baseball coach Jason Gill, a former All-Big West Conference infielder under Coach George Horton, has been hired as an assistant coach. Gill replaces Dave Serrano, who was hired as UCI Head Coach.

More details about alumni involvement, giving to the university, and a complete list of 2004 donors are included in the special Fall 2004 issue of Titan Magazine. Look for it in November.
