CSUF Ranks Sixth Nationally For Undergraduate Degrees Awarded to Hispanics

Cal State Fullerton has moved up to sixth place in the nation for awarding bachelor’s degrees to Hispanics, according to the May 3 Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education’s annual “Top 100,” a national listing of colleges and universities.

The ranking is based on 2002 data gathered by the National Center for Education Statistics, U.S. Department of Education.

Last year, CSUF was listed eighth and was third highest among CSU campuses on the listing. This year, Fullerton became the second highest CSU campus on the list behind Cal State Los Angeles.

In the same edition, Hispanic Outlook ranked Cal State Fullerton 23 in the top 100 for the number of master’s degrees awarded to Hispanics, up from 46 on last year’s list.

In specific academic programs, Cal State Fullerton ranks second nationally for the number of undergraduate degrees awarded to Hispanics in communications; third in education; fourth in protective services and public administration; and eighth in area studies.

In February, Hispanic Outlook in Education ranked Cal State Fullerton eighth in the nation among the top 25 institutions for enrollment of Hispanic women, and 14th for the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded to women.

Hispanics account for 26 percent of the 30,848-student population at Cal State Fullerton.
