EDITOR'S NOTE: The California visit by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has been cancelled. 02/24/04

Nigerian Vice President to Visit Cal State Fullerton

Cal State Fullerton’s Center for the Study of Emerging Markets will be hosting a Friday, Feb. 27, reception and luncheon for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“We look forward to discussing business opportunities between Nigeria and Southern California, as well as honoring his Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for his vision and leadership in the ongoing economic deregulation and privatization of state-owned enterprises in his country,” said Joseph F. Greco, co-director of the Center for the Study of Emerging Markets.

Abubakar’s visit to Cal State Fullerton is part of a swing through California that includes a Feb. 26 lecture at UCLA.

Prior to his election as vice president, Abubakar served as chairman of seven companies and was deputy director of Nigeria’s Customs and Excise Department. He is a sponsor and member of the finance committee of the World Constitution and Parliament Association, as well as a member of World Citizens headquartered in France.

The Center for the Study of Emerging Markets, housed within the university’s College of Business and Economics, was established in 1998 to promote the free flow of global information and technology between the academic and business communities.

Editor’s note: Though the session is not open to the public, media representatives interested in attending are invited to call Marge Boden at 657-278-4125.
