CSUF Schedules Public Hearing for Reaccreditation of University Police
July 23, 2004 :: No. 14
Members of the community are invited to attend
a public hearing Monday, Aug. 9, to offer comments regarding Cal
State Fullerton’s University Police Department.
The forum is part of an on-site assessment by the
Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. (CALEA).
The assessment team will be examining all aspects of the department’s
policy and procedures, management, operations and support services
to verify that the campus police department meets the commission’s
standards.
The public hearing is a component of a voluntary
process to gain reaccreditation — a highly prized recognition
of law enforcement professional excellence, according to University
Police Chief Judi King. Accreditation is awarded for three years;
Cal State Fullerton’s police force was originally accredited
in 2001 following a similar procedure.
The 7 p.m. hearing will be held in Mackey Auditorium
of the Ruby Gerontology Center. Individuals who are not able to
attend, but who would like to provide comments are invited to do
so by calling 657-278-4775 between 2-4:30 p.m. Aug. 9.
Telephone comments and appearances at the public
hearing are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s
ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. For a copy of the
standards, please call Debbie Ellis of University Police at 657-278-4814.
Those who wish to offer written comments about CSUF’s
University Police Department may write to the Commission on Accreditation
for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc., 10306 Eaton Place, Suite 320,
Fairfax, Virginia, 22030-2201.
