Persian Language to be Offered at Cal State Fullerton

Representatives from Cal State Fullerton will help mark the culmination of the Persian New Year with several thousand celebrants Sunday at Mason Park in Irvine, where attendees will learn details of a new course offering slated for the university's fall semester.

With funding from the Iranian Cultural Center of Orange County, which seeks to preserve knowledge of Persian language, literature and culture, Cal State Fullerton will launch a course on Persian language and culture.

“The university has a commitment to serving the multicultural community,” said Thomas P. Klammer, dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. “In regards to foreign languages, we especially value languages that are spoken in our local community and that are of international importance, such as Persian.”

“Fundamental Persian,” a four-unit course, will be taught in Persian and offered Monday and Wednesday evenings by the university's Foreign Languages and Literatures Department. In addition to language instruction, the course will provide an introduction to Persian customs, culture and civilization. Classes begin in August.

This course will join others already part of the university's curriculum for beginning and advanced students of Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish and Vietnamese.

Additional information is available from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at 657-278-3534.
