Student Research Winners to Represent
Cal State Fullerton at CSU Competition

Three undergraduate students with a knack for conducting sophisticated research are winners of the Cal State Fullerton Student Research Competition and will represent the university at the 17th annual CSU Student Research Competition May 2-3 at CSU Stanislaus.

Each of the students received a $250 prize. All three are from the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

The students and their projects are:
• Lawrence Gray of Placentia, senior biological science major, “Theoretical Study on Deamination of Cytosine Glycol by Hydroxide Ion - Water Clusters.” Mentor: Fu-Ming Tao, associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry.
• Tram Hoang of Garden Grove, senior mathematics major, “Neonatal Jaundice: Its Mathematical Model and Treatments.” Mentor: Charles H. Lee, assistant professor of mathematics.
• Cynthia B. Gilley of Chino Hills, senior chemistry major, “Pathways of Iron Absorption and Transport in the Caco2 Cell Intestinal Model.” Mentor: Maria Linder, professor of chemistry and biochemistry.

Judges were: Sylvia Alva, assistant vice president for Academic Programs; Joe Arnold, associate dean of the College of the Arts; Tom Johnson, associate dean of academic affairs for the College of Business and Economics; Katrin Harich, associate dean of administration for the College of Business and Economics; Fred Zandpour, associate dean of the College of Communications; David Falconer, associate dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science; Ray Young, associate dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences; David Fromson, associate dean of the College of Natural Sciences and mathematics; and Ellen Junn, associate dean of the College of Human Development and Community Service.
