City offices closed Monday
City Hall will close Monday in observance of Veterans’ Day holiday. It will reopen at 7 a.m. on Tuesday. The Main and Hunt Branch libraries will also be closed. However, the main library will be open on Sunday, Veterans’ Day. MG Disposal Systems, the city’s trash contractor, will not observe the holiday.
Eastside Church expansion subject of meeting
A proposal to replace some of the aging Eastside Christian Church facilities with 30,000 square feet of new space will be discussed at a community meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at City Hall, 303 W. Commonwealth Ave. The proposed master plan would not result in any changes to the existing sanctuary or to the church preschool or elementary school enrollment capacity. The meeting is only for information; no public hearings have been scheduled.

Sunday lecture
The Main Library will commemorate Veterans’ Day on Sunday with a “Town and Gown” lecture series for adults.
Robert McLain, a history professor at Cal State Fullerton, will discuss “The Finale Drive in the Pacific, 1945” from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the Osborne Auditorium, 353 W. Commonwealth Ave.
The lecture is free to the public.
During his presentation, McLain will trace the events of World War II’s final months, addressing the aspects of the campaign and the decisionmaking process that led to the use of the atomic bomb.
McLain is the author of “The Indian Corps on the Western Front: A Reconsideration” and has been published in “War in the Age of Technology: Myriad Faces of Modern Armed Conflict.”
