Women's soccer: UCLA tops CSF; USC advances
Friday's college highlights

Junior midfielder Christina DiMartino had a hand in all three Bruins goals, as the top-ranked UCLA women's soccer team recorded a 3-1 victory over Cal State Fullerton on Friday evening in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Drake Stadium on the UCLA campus.

UCLA (17-1-2) advances to the second round and next will face either San Diego or Oklahoma State on Sunday at 1 p.m.

UCLA scored in the fifth minute on a goal by forward Kristina Larsen, on an assist by DiMartino. She

DiMartino helped create the Bruins' second goal a little more than three minutes later, as she made her way to the endline and lofted a ball deep in the Fullerton box. Midfielder McCall Zerboni beat everyone to it, poking the bouncing ball into the top left corner.

DiMartino would get a goal of her own in the 39th minute.

The Titans (12-8-2) avoided the shutout at the 83:26 mark, as Christina Murillo took advantage of an empty Bruins net.

USC 3, Creighton 0: The second-seeded Trojans dominated possession in its first-round match against Creighton in Columbia, Mo. After a first half of peppering the Creighton goal with 21 shots, USC finally broke through with what proved to be the game-winner in the first minute of the second half, as Amy Rodriguez (Santa Margartia High) got her eighth goal of the season and eighth career game-winner. The Trojans will face host Missouri in the second round at 11 a.m.

Men's soccer: Cal State Northridgedefeated visiting UC Irvine, 2-1,at Matador Soccer Field. The Matadors took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute as Devin Deldo deflected in a cross from Sunghyun Kim. Matt Tracy put CSUN up 2-0 in the 18th minute on a free kick from 28 yards out.

The Anteaters (6-8-5 , 1-7-3) got on the board in the 74th minute as freshman Jonathan Kurup crossed the ball to junior Rafael Macedo who crossed the ball back over to freshman Amani Walker who slid the ball into the net. CSUN would go on to hold on and maintain the 2-1 margin for the victory. Freshman keeper Pat Barton had five saves for the 'Eaters. Peter Bomar had three saves for the Matadors.

Women's volleyball:Long Beach Statehitter Alexis Crimes led all players with 16 kills as the 49ers (21-6, 14-2) defeated Cal State Fullerton, 30-25, 30-23, 30-19, to conclude the 2007 Big West Conference schedule for both squads at Titan Gym. The Titans (13-15, 7-9) got 13 kills from Alex Wolnisty.

Wresting: Heavyweight Wade Sauer and 184-pounder Ian Murphy registered pins to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 46-0 victory over Portland Statein a Pac-10 match to open the 2007-08 wrestling season.Sauer, ranked No. 3 in the nation, pinned the Vikings' Zack Smith in 3:40 while Murphy, ranked No. 12, scored a fall over Jacob Antoine at 4:30. The Titans also got technical falls from John Drake at 197 and Teddy Astorga at 141 and won the two lightweight bouts by forfeit.
