LONG BEACH - The Long Beach State women's volleyball team, fresh off a weekend road sweep of the UC Irvine Anteaters and the UC Riverside Highlanders, is back in Big West Conference action tonight at 7 in the Walter Pyramid with a match against the Cal State Fullerton Titans.
The 49ers' 30-24, 34-32 and 31-29 victory in Irvine Friday night, followed the next evening by a 30-21, 34-32 and 30-15 decision in Riverside, left them 9-2 in conference (a game behind Cal Poly, which beat them twice) and 15-6 overall.
Tonight's opponents, the Titans, are considered much improved with 5-4 and 11-10 conference and overall records, respectively.
A Long Beach women's volleyball team hasn't lost to a Fullerton counterpart in more than 25 years - a stretch of 48 matches.
After CSF, it's going to be a busy week for coach Brian Gimmillaro's team.
The 49ers play host to the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners Friday night in a nonconference match and travel to the San Fernando Valley Saturday evening for a Big West match at Cal State Northridge.
That means that they will have played five matches in a nine-evening stretch.
