Regional Digest: Sacramento City scores late for football victory
Jose Zambrano scored on a seven-yard run with 44 seconds to play Saturday to give Sacramento City College a 28-21 victory over College of the Siskiyous in Weed.
In a wild fourth quarter, the Panthers scored 21 points, and the Eagles had 14.
Zambrano also scored on two short runs for the Panthers (4-3, 2-0 Mid-Empire Conference).
Anthony Young caught two touchdown passes for the Eagles (3-4, 0-2).
• Lamon Muldrow scored two touchdowns to lead host Sierra College over West Hills 31-6.
Water polo
Adam Bennett scored three goals, and Joseph Smith made a game-winning penalty shot to lead the 10th-ranked UC Davis men over No. 7 Loyola Marymount 7-5 in a Western Water Polo Association match in Los Angeles. The Aggies (16-5, 13-0) improved to 3-0 this season against the Lions (7-13, 3-3).
Tennis
Eighth-seeded Katrina Zheltova of Sacramento State beat Cal's Claire Ilcinkas 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-4 to reach the round of 16 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional Championships at Stanford. Zheltova then lost to 10th-seeded Cristina Visico of Cal 6-2, 6-3. Visico had advanced by defeating UC Davis' Desiree Stone 6-2, 6-2.
Swimming
The UC Davis men scored 361 points on the final day of the Pacific Invitational at the Roseville Aquatics Complex to finish third. Russell Taylor led the Aggies with three top-five individual finishes for 47 points. The UCD women finished fifth. Cal won the men's and women's team titles.
Soccer
The host UCD men had two shots by Nicholas Lind stopped by Cal State Fullerton goalie Brent Douglas in the final 30 seconds and lost 2-1 in Big West Conference play. Shay Spitz scored both goals for the Titans (5-7-2, 1-4-2). Dylan Curtis scored for the Aggies (7-4-2, 2-3-1).
