Tigers cruise to win

The Pacific women's volleyball team dispatched Cal State Bakersfield 3-0 in a non-conference match before 908 fans on Friday night at Spanos Center. The Tigers won in 90 minutes by scores of 30-16, 30-21 and 30-22.

Sophomore Meagan MimMack had 11 kills and senior Johanna Hilbers had 10 kills to lead Pacific (12-5). Junior Shannon Krug had 39 assists and 12 digs for her seventh double-double of the season, and freshman Svenja Englehardt had seven kills, six digs and four aces. Former Bear Creek High standout Julie Magud, the all-time Pacific digs leader, had 16 digs.

Pacific hit .385 as a team.

"It was a pretty balanced attack. We just played well, start to finish," second-year Pacific coach Charlie Wade said.

Pacific (5-3 Big West Conference) begins the second half of Big West Conference play, hosting Cal State Fullerton (10-9, 5-3) at 7 p.m. today at Spanos Center.


Men's Soccer Modesto 3, Delta 0

At Modesto, goalie Jose Salas had eight saves for the Mustangs (7-11). Scotty Bettencourt, Tim Geerlof and Victor Perez had one goal apiece for Modesto (9-4-3).


BOYS SOCCER


Lincoln 3, Bear Creek 2

At Bear Creek, senior Will Martin had two goals and two assists for the Trojans (11-5-1, 10-2 San Joaquin Athletic Association). Paul Jaffe had a goal and an assist for Lincoln.


Tokay 0, St. Mary's 0

At St. Mary's, goalkeeper Tim Rusher had two saves for the Tigers (9-2-5, 4-1-3 Tri-City Athletic League) in the tie against the Rams.


Franklin 5, Lodi 0

At Lodi, Ammanuel Gomez scored two goals and Hugo Aguayo had one goal and two assists to lead the Yellowjackets (15-3-1).


MENS WATER POLO


UCSB 10, Pacific 5

At Santa Barbara, the Tigers fell to the Gauchos for the second time in less than a week despite three goals from Dragan Bakic. Joey Rossi and Mike Struempf each scored for Pacific (13-12, 0-2 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation). Ross Sinclair led UC Santa Barbara (16-8, 1-1) with three goals.


Merced 8, Delta 7

At Delta, Greg Stevens, Justin Linscheid and Nick Fadden scored two goals each for the Mustangs (10-11, 2-3 Big 8 Conference).


BOYS WATER POLO


Lincoln advances

At Lincoln, the Trojans split two games at the Dick DeLong Tournament and advanced to the ninth to 16th place bracket.

Lincoln (13-9) fell to Monte Vista in the first game 11-3. Greg Pruett, Blake Lewis and Richard Dietrich each scored in the loss. The team later regrouped to defeat Reno 12-5. Dietrich and Pruett combined to score 10 goals for Lincoln.


Rams split

At Lincoln, St. Mary's lost to Granite Bay 6-4 and defeated Buhach Colony 12-5 at the Dick DeLong Tournament. Taylor Setness had five goals against Buhach Colony and two against Granite Bay. The Rams (15-6) play today for ninth to 16th place.


MENS VOLLEYBALL


Dino Cup

At Calgary, the Pacific men lost to host University of Calgary 3-2 (25-17, 25-16, 20-25, 16-25, 15-8). Senior Pekka Seppanen had 13 kills and 10 digs, and junior Joe Forbes six blocks to lead the Tigers in the four-team exhibition.

Today, Pacific plays two matches, including one against Stanford.


WOMENS SWIMMING


Pacific Invitational

At Roseville, senior and former Sierra High standout Ja-Neil Bragg won the 200 freestyle (1:50.73) and the 400 individual medley (4:17.98), and also anchored the winning 200 free relay (1:47.07).

Pacific is third in the team standings (302 points). Oregon State leads with 349.50 points.


MENS SWIMMING


Pacific Invitational

At Roseville, senior Krzysztof Zoldak won the 400 individual medley in a time of 3:58:66 as Pacific is in second place after the first day of action. Cal leads the meet with 604.50 points, while Pacific has 390.50 points.


WOMENS TENNIS


ITA Northwest Regionals

At Stanford, Jolanta Twaroska took both of her matches for the Tigers on the first day of the ITA Northwest Regionals to advance to the round of 32 where she will take on Stanford's No. 4 Jessica Nguyen today. Svenja Arens also advanced for Pacific.
