CAL STATE FULLERTON THIS WEEK

WOMEN'S SOCCER

The Titans (7-6-1, 2-2-0 in conference) face the top and bottom teams in the early Big West Conference women's soccer standings this week with a Friday match at front-running Long Beach State and a home match on Sunday evening against cellar-dwelling Cal State Northridge.

Fullerton is riding the momentum of a near-miss against No. 6 Santa Clara and a 3-0 victory over Pacific that stopped a three-game losing streak. Fullerton rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the Broncos as Tanya Slusser made a penalty kick and Geminsese Martinez tallied the tying goal with 1:43 remaining in regulation. Santa Clara won in overtime, 3-2.

On Sunday, Brianna Buffington had two second-half goals and freshman Christina Murrillo scored her third goal of the year as the Titan erupted after intermission for a 3-0 win over the Tigers.

MEN'S SOCCER.

Bad breaks and multiple injuries continue to haunt the Cal State Fullerton men's soccer team (4-7-1, 0-4-1), which must take to the road for its next three matches. The Titans are at UC Riverside and UC Davis this week and play at Cal State Norhridge next week before a home non-conference match on Sunday, Oct. 28, vs. Cal State Bakersfield.

Last week, Peter Kingman suffered a fractured right tibia in a 1-0 loss to UC Riverside on Wednesday night. German Moreno also was injured in that match and the pair joined defender Amir Shafii on the sidelines for Saturday's 2-1 overtime loss to UC Irvine.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL.

A tough week on the road awaits the Cal State Fullerton volleyball team (9-9, 4-3), which just missed having a great homestand last week.

The Titans let an upset of then-first-place UC Irvine get away on Thursday night before rallying from a 2-1 deficit to beat UC Riverside on Saturday night. Tied at one game apiece, the Titans led the Anteaters, 29-26, in pivotal game No. 3. But UCI won 6 of the next 7 points for a 32-30 victory and rolled on to the victory.
