Saturday highlights: UCI defeats CSF in men's soccer
Thompson's goal gives the Anteaters an overtime victory.

Spencer Thompson's unassisted goal 3:53 into overtime Saturday night lifted UC Irvine to a 2-1 Big West Conference men's soccer victory at Cal State Fullerton.
The win snapped a 6-game winless streak for the Anteaters and left them 6-3-3 overall and 1-2-1 in the Big West. Fullerton lost for the seventh time in the last nine matches to fall to 4-7-1 and 0-4-1.
Thompson outran a Titan defender to a long through ball and beat CSF goalkeeper Tyler Andrews.
CROSS COUNTRY
The Long Beach State cross-country teams had their best perfomance of the year in the largest meet on the west coast as the men captured the Santa Clara Invitational title and the women finished in second place on Saturday at a Baylands Regional Park.
Dylan Jaedtke, Eli Rodriguez and Travis Kuhlman led The Beach as all three runners finished in the top ten. Jaedtke was the top finisher in the 8K race for the men's team, finishing in fourth place with a time of 24:52, four seconds short of his personal-best. Rodriguez was close behind as he finished in fifth with a time of 25:06 and Kuhlman finihsed in 10th, with a time of 25:13.
On the women's side, Sarah Apgar and Carly Harris were the top 49ers and they finished in the top ten. Apgar finished in second place in the 5K race as she placed the third fastest on the course with a time of 17:21, while Harris finished in seventh with a time of 17:41. Jennifer Rodriguez (18:03), Christina Wilson (18:09) and Missy Barclay (18:13) finished 25th, 30th and 36th.
Cal State Fullerton's Grace Gonzales ran 21st in the women's race and Cory Vaselenko was No. 24 in the men's race.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
UC Irvine was swept for the first time this season, losing to No. 24 Cal Poly 31-29, 30-22, 30-28 Saturday in a Big West Conference match at Crawford Court. The loss dropped the Anteaters to 15-7 overall and 5-2 in the Big West while the Mustangs improved to 12-7 (6-1) overall.
The Anteaters were led by outside hitter Lauren Kellerman, who had 13 kills. Freshman Kari Pestolesi added 10 kills while setter Taryn Robertson had 32 assists. Libero Devon Sutherland had 10 digs in the effort while Robertson and middle blocker Kristin Kelley led the team with six block assists apiece.
