Bulldogs hoops recruit checks in for weekend visit
By Gary Estwick / The Fresno Bee

Rainier Beach High-Seattle point guard Reggie Moore, one of Fresno State's four oral commitments, visited campus this weekend.

He toured the school Friday, met with the men's basketball coaching staff and sat with future teammates at Saturday night's football game against Louisiana Tech.

"It's been cool," Moore said during halftime of Fresno State's 17-6 win. "I've been hanging out with Sylvester [Seay], Alex [Blair] and KB [Kevin Bell]. They've been real cool. We went to the movies ["The Kingdom"], so it's been nice. I love it."

His tour included a trip to the Save Mart Center. Moore said he envisioned the basketball team's home facility sold out on game nights, complete with fans clad in red.

"I thought it would be pretty cool," said Moore, making his first trip to a college campus.

Last month, Moore orally committed to Fresno State. He joins Rainier Beach teammate Mychal Ladd, Newark Memorial guard Chris Jones and forward Bracken Funk of Utah's Lone Peak High. If everything stays as it is, Moore likely will compete with Tyson Parker -- he is redshirting this season -- for the starting point guard job. Bell is entering his senior season.

Moore called the situation he's heading into next fall as a "perfect opportunity."

Except for one aspect.

"I would love to play like one year with KB, if I could, to learn more from him," Moore said.

Moore's high school coach, Mike Bethea, has compared him to former NBA point guard Kevin Johnson. Moore averaged 13 points per game as a junior.

Scout.com ranks Moore as a three-star recruit.

Fresno State scored first and last but Cal State-Fullerton had three goals in between en route to a 3-2 nonconference victory Sunday at Bulldog Stadium.

Amanda Reyes scored 5 minutes into the match to give the Bulldogs (4-5) a 1-0 lead, but the Titans (6-3-1) countered with goals in the 40th, 48th and 79th minutes. Nicole Gutierrez scored in the 86th minute for Fresno State, her fourth goal in the past two games.

"I thought we did fairly well in the first 20 minutes," Fresno State coach Steve Springthorpe said. "We scored an early goal and looked dangerous and then about the 20-minute mark we got frazzled when they started pushing a few numbers forward. We didn't handle it very well."
