NOTEBOOK

As long as they want to keep going, manager John Gibbons said he'll keep playing his regulars this final weekend. "It'd be nice to see Aaron (Hill) get another homer. Frank (Thomas) can still get 100 RBIs. They want to play, so let 'em play." Hill had 17 homers going into last night; one more would give him the team record for second basemen.

Injured Toronto Argonauts quarterback Damon Allen, being interviewed for a Sportsnet feature, played some catch before the game with fellow Cal State Fullerton grad Reed Johnson. Allen, a pitcher, was drafted by the 1994 Pittsburgh Pirates and, with Cal State, once got a groundout from Rod Carew.

The Jays' 8-5 win in Baltimore Wednesday marked the third time ever they'd scored at least eight runs but had no extra-base hits. The last time this happened was in August 1983 when they won 9-3, also in Baltimore, on 11 singles.
