High school notebook: Liberty's Huntington commits to N. Arizona
BY BRAD RIDDELL, Californian staff writer
Caty Huntington, who helped Liberty's girls basketball team to a 12-0 Southeast Yosemite League record last season, has committed to play for Northern Arizona beginning in 2008.
She was named first-team All-Area, averaging 16 points, six steals, 5.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.
Commitments are non-binding until the NCAA's fall signing period in November.
Martin switches from UCI to Fullerton
A shuffle in college baseball coaching has led Centennial's Jarret Martin to switch his commitment from UC Irvine to Cal State Fullerton.
Martin originally committed to Irvine coach Dave Serrano. But when Fullerton coach George Horton was tabbed as coach at Oregon -- a program that is starting up after a 27-year layoff -- Serrano was hired as the new coach of the Titans. Martin has since given his commitment to Serrano and Fullerton.
As part of Centennial's 2007 Central Section Division I championship run, Martin went 6-1 with a 4.15 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 59 innings pitched. He also batted .330 with six home runs and 37 RBIs. Martin hit a first-inning grand slam in the title game against Clovis West.
