First Rachael, now Megan Rapinoe is lost for season

The University of Portland women's soccer team took another devastating blow when the team found out junior All-American midfielder Megan Rapinoe will be lost for the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee for the second time in less than a year. The tear was confirmed by doctors on Thursday.
Rapinoe, whose 2006 season was cut short by the same injury, appeared in just two matches in 2007 off the bench for the Pilots. She played 13 minutes against Cal State Fullerton on Sept. 7 and came off the bench for most of the second half against Purdue on Sept. 9 before re-injuring the knee in practice.
Megan's twin sister Rachael Rapinoe was diagnosed with the same season-ending injury last week, leaving the Pilots without two of their top offensive threats.
Megan Rapinoe has 25 goals and 15 assists in just 38 matches throughout her career with the Pilots. Rachael Rapinoe scored four goals in the team's first four matches this season before going down to injury.
The No. 3 ranked Pilots (6-1-0) are home on Sunday to host crosstown rival Portland State at 2 p.m.
