COLLEGE NOTES
Texas freshman QB is probable for Rice; TCU releases baseball schedule

Staff and Wire Reports

Sherrod Harris, Texas' backup quarterback from Arlington Bowie, has been upgraded to probable for Saturday's game against Rice, team trainers said Thursday.

Harris, a redshirt freshman, sprained his left knee during fall drills and did not dress for the Longhorns' first three games. At the time of his injury, Harris and John Chiles, a freshman from Mansfield Summit, were considered to be sharing the backup role to starter Colt McCoy.

Texas officials said Thursday that Chiles, who has yet to play and is eligible to be redshirted this season, remains the No. 2 quarterback on the Longhorns' depth chart. In addition, two players who missed last week's game, RT Adam Ulatoski (elbow) and DE Brian Orakpo (knee), will not play against Rice.

TCU releases schedule

TCU's 2008 baseball schedule will have 56 regular-season games, 32 at Lupton Stadium.

The Horned Frogs will play 15 games against opponents that appeared in the postseason a year ago. TCU will host 2007 College World Series participant Cal State Fullerton in a three-game series starting Feb. 22 to open the season.

TCU also will host the 2008 Mountain West Conference postseason tournament.

FSN's plans

FSN officials said local cable operators can start Saturday's Rice-Texas telecast (6 p.m., Austin) on FSN Plus if the Texas Tech-Oklahoma State game (2:30 p.m. start) has not ended by kickoff time in Austin.

If that scenario unfolds, a crawl at the bottom of the screen will inform FSN Southwest viewers where to turn to find the FSN Plus telecast.

FSN officials received angry feedback Sept. 8 when cable viewers in Dallas-Fort Worth were not able to watch the TCU-Texas telecast until the 12:40 mark of the second quarter because the first game of FSN's doubleheader (Texas A&M-Fresno State) went into triple overtime.
