Visiting PLNU tops Vanguard in league play

Behind 15 kills and 19 digs from Melissa Boer, PLNU rolled to a three-game sweep of host Vanguard in a Golden State Athletic Conference volleyball match last night, 30-23, 32-30, 30-23.
Setter Kylie Morel of Temecula's Chaparral High had 36 assists and 15 digs for the Sea Lions (8-2, 2-1). Natalie Acklin added nine kills and Jen Michaelson had 21 digs against the Lions (3-4, 1-2). Kelsey Wirt had 15 kills and 18 digs for Vanguard.

Lindsey Mahan had 16 kills, Stephanie Darnall 13 and Lauren Salisbury 12 as San Diego State muscled out a 26-30, 30-27, 30-25, 15-30, 15-12 nonconference victory over visiting Cal State Fullerton. Defensive specialist Aime Cordeiro (West Hills) had 44 digs, and Kristen Castillo collected 28 assists and Leah Lathrop added 27 for the Aztecs (8-2). The win was the fifth straight for SDSU, giving the team its longest winning streak since the 2001 season. Fullerton falls to 5-5 . . . Biola swept host San Diego Christian 3-0 in a Golden State Athletic Conference match.
