Coyotes volleyball now 8-0

The Coyotes rallied from a two-game deficit Saturday night to keep its unbeaten streak alive, defeating host Western Washington University 3-2 in the final game of the Vikings volleyball tournament.
Sharea Drawn had 26 kills and teammate Jessica Granados had 18 kills and 15 digs as CSUSB prevailed 27-30, 20-30, 30-20, 30-24 and 15-12 to improve to 8-0 on the season.
REDLANDS VOLLEYBALL
The University of Redlands women's volleyball team defeated visiting Buena Vista University (PA) in its first match of the season, 31-33, 30-25, 30-28, 30-19.
Leading the Bulldogs was senior outside hitter Lori Nakamura, who put away a match-high 22 kills. Jordann Tanner added to the team's success with 14 kills and five aces. Setter Kelina Smith dished out 53 assists for the Bulldogs. Defensively, sophomore Lauren Harding provided a team-leading 29 digs while Nakamura supplied 17.
The Bulldogs (2-0) then defeated La Sierra in straight sets, 30-11, 30-21, 30-15, to cap a perfect opening weekend. Tanner led Redlands with 10 kills and five aces while Harding had 17 digs.
CAL STATE CROSS COUNTRY
Redlands East Valley grad Megan Holt was the top finisher for Cal State San Bernardino on
Saturday as the Coyotes finished 10th in a 12-team field at the annual Cal State Fullerton "Season Opener" cross-country meet.Holt covered the 5,000-meter course in 20:16.6, finishing 47th in the field of 136 runners.
Susy Munoz, a Hesperia grad, was the second Coyote into the finish chute with a score of 20:34.1, good for 52nd place. Munoz was followed by Kim Miller (Rim of World HS) in 54th place in 20:35.7.
Host Cal State Fullerton won the meet with 51 points, with Cal State L.A. second (78), followed by Azusa Pacific (95), Biola (111) and Concordia University Irvine (123).
CAL STATE MEN'S SOCCER
The men from Costa Mesa stood up better in the muggy, 109-degree heat Saturday afternoon as Vanguard University shut out host Cal State San Bernardino 2-0 in a nonconference soccer match at Coyote Premier Field.
The Lions (1-0) got a nifty goal from Sem Lopez in the 36th minute as he toed the ball into the goal while lying prone on the ground with Coyotes goalkeeper Lucas Pepi nearby.
CAL STATE WOMEN'S SOCCER
Host Cal State San Bernardino and Vanguard University each scored in the final minute of a half Saturday, and both women's teams left Coyote Field with a 1-1 tie to their credit after a 15-minute overtime.
CSUSB (2-0-1) scored in the final minute of the first half on a header by freshman Jenna Sanchez off a corner kick from another freshmen, Ashley Haagsma.
