San Luis Obispo

The Cal Poly women’s basketball team announced its 2007-08 schedule Thursday, hosting a tournament for the first time since 1996-97 and traveling to two Pac-10 schools.

The Mustangs host the four-team Holiday Beach Classic from Nov. 23 to 24, facing Fairfield and Wright State. North Dakota State also is in the tournament.

The Mustangs open the season at Oregon State on Nov. 10 and face another Pac-10 foe Nov. 20 when they travel to UCLA.

Cal Poly’s home opener is scheduled for Nov. 15 against Houston. The Mustangs also host two exhibitions against Melbourne (Oct. 31) and Cal State Monterey Bay (Nov. 3).

They open the conference season at Cal State Northridge (Jan. 3) and Long Beach State (Jan. 5) before hosting Cal State Fullerton on Jan. 10.

San Luis Obispo

The Cuesta College women’s volleyball team stayed undefeated with a 3-0 home win over nonconference foe Chabot on Thursday.

The Cougars (2-0) handed the Gladiators a 30-18, 30-21, 30-21 loss in Cuesta Gym. Danielle Hoversten had eight kills and Julie Coelho eight digs for Cuesta, which hosts Sequoias at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Cambria

Natalie Rodriguez and Mackenzie Cunningham did not drop a game in singles play as the Coast Union girls tennis team defeated McFarland 10-3.

Rodriguez and Cunningham each picked up two 6-0 wins over Samantha Gonzalez and Olivia Gonzalez.

In doubles, the Broncos’ Betsy Plascencia and Heather Hamilton picked up 6-1 and 6-4 wins.

Santa Ynez

The Arroyo Grande High girls golf team opened the season with a 279-298 nonleague win over host Santa Ynez at the Alisal River Course.

Senior Kelsi Kesler carded a nine-hole 47 to take medalist honors for the Eagles. She was followed by teammates Ali Criazzo (48), Sam Sullivan (54), Sydney Johnson (65) and Taylor Cabanero (65).

“Everyone played an exceptional round today (for) their first time on the course,” Arroyo Grande head coach Claudia Souder said.
