FHSU welcomes new faculty

Several new faculty have been hired at Fort Hays State University for the 2007-2008 academic year.
* Chantelle Arnold is assistant director of the Kansas Youth Leadership Academy, moving from her position as senior administrative assistant on June 17. She received a bachelor of business administration in accounting degree from FHSU in 1997. She is working on a master of liberal studies degree in organizational leadership.
* Dr. James Barrett accepted a full-time position in the Department of Educational Administration and Counseling as an instructor. He began his position on Aug. 13. Barrett received a Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1986. He previously worked for the Southwest Plains Regional Service Center.
* Dr. Mitchell Berger accepted a full-time position in the Department of Chemistry as an instructor. He began his position on Aug. 13. Berger received a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry from the City College of New York in 1970; a master of science degree in organic chemistry from the University of Rochester in 1973; and a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Rochester in 1975.
* Regina Blum is an instructor in the Department of English international Virtual College. She started her job on Aug. 8. Blum received a bachelor of arts degree from the National College of Education in Evanston, Ill., in 1983; completed a principal's training center certificate from the National College of Education in Evanston in 1995; and received a master of arts in teaching English as a second language degree from Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, in 1985. She has taught English as a second language for the College of Lake County, Grayslake, Ill.
* Pamela Carney joined the Computing and Telecommunications Center as a full-time applications programmer and analyst on May 21. Carney received an associate of science degree from Barton County Community College in 2003 and a bachelor of science in computer information systems degree from Kansas Wesleyan University in 2006.
* Buddy Curry II is the livestock judging coach and a program specialist in the Department of Agriculture. He began this full-time position on Aug. 13. Curry completed an associate's degree in agriculture education and animal science from Northeastern Oklahoma A M College, Miami, in 1986; a bachelor of science degree from Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Goodwell, in 1993; and a master of science degree in animal science from West Texas A M University, Canyon, in 1997. He also earned a certification in meat animal and carcass inspection from the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1987 and a boer goat judging certification from the American Boer Goat Association in San Angelo, Texas, in 2005. Curry has been a livestock judging coach and an agriculture instructor at Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas.
* Jeremy Dyes is an instructor in the Department of History. He began his position on Aug. 13. Dyes received a bachelor of arts degree from Texas A M University, College Station, in 1996 and a master of arts degree from Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, in 1999.
* Dr. David Fitzhugh accepted a full-time position in the Department of Health and Human Performance as an assistant professor and a director for the athletic training education program. He began his position on Aug. 13. Fitzhugh received a bachelor of science degree in athletic training from New Mexico State University in 1993; a master of science degree in physical education and recreation with an emphasis in sports administration from FHSU in 1997; and a Ph.D. in education from the University of Tennessee in 2004.
* Anthony Gabel is an assistant professor in the Department of Management and Marketing. He will begin his position on Aug. 13. Gabel received a bachelor of arts degree in political science with a mathematics minor from FHSU in 1993 and a juris doctorate from the University of Notre Dame Law School, South Bend, Ind., in 1996. Gabel was an instructor for the Hesston College Local Academy and he served as an attorney in Hays since September 2004.
* Jacob Glover joined the Center for Teaching Excellence and Learning Technology as a full-time faculty development coordinator on June 17. Glover received a bachelor of science degree in Bible education with an emphasis in youth from Manhattan Christian College in 1995 and a master of science degree in educational administration from FHSU in 2007.
* Jason Harper is an instructor in the English Department for the international Virtual College. He starts his job on Aug. 14. He received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Northern Michigan University, Marquette, in 1999; a master of arts in English degree from Northern Michigan in 2002; and a master of fine arts in creative writing-fiction degree from Wichita State University in 2006.
* Jessica Heronemus is an instructor for the Department of Accounting and Information Systems. She began on Aug. 13. She attended the University of Wyoming and earned her bachelor of general studies degree from FHSU in 2005 and a master of business administration degree from FHSU in 2007. Heronemus has taught summer classes for FHSU.
* Jamie Hofling is lead counselor for the Kansas Center for Entrepreneurship. He moved from a position as lead network counselor to his new position for the Kansas Center for Entrepreneurship on May 20. Hofling earned a bachelor of arts in international studies in business administration degree from Wichita State University in 2007.
* Dr. Amanda Hopkins is an instructor for the Department of Teacher Education. She began her position on Aug. 13. Hopkins received a bachelor of arts in geology and earth science degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, in 1995; a master of science in education degree from Purdue University, Lafayette, Ind., in 2002; and a doctor of philosophy in science education degree from Purdue University, Lafayette, Ind., in 2007. Hopkins was a teaching assistant at Purdue.
* Jacque Jacobs joined the Department of Communication Disorders as a program specialist on July 1. Jacobs received a bachelor of science degree in speech-language pathology from FHSU in 2003 and a master of science in speech-language pathology degree from FHSU in 2005. Jacobs has worked as a speech-language pathologist for the Salina Regional Health Center and at a RehabCare Center in Hays.
* Amy Jensen moved from her position as McMindes Hall assistant director to a full-time position as Wiest Hall and Agnew Hall director on May 20. Jensen received a bachelor of arts in communication studies degree from FHSU in 2007.
* Keyu Jiang is an instructor in the Department of Information Networking and Telecommunications. He began his position on Aug. 13. Jiang received a bachelor of education in software engineering degree from Beijing University of Technology in 1995, a master of science in computer science degree from University of Southern Mississippi in 1997 and a Ph.D. in computer science from Arizona Sate University in 2001.
* Brandon Jobe accepted a position as an assistant compliance officer and student services coordinator on July 15. He received an associate degree in general education from Labette County Community College in 2001 and a bachelor of arts in health and human performance degree from FHSU in 2006. Jobe is pursuing a master of science in health, physical education and recreation degree with an emphasis in sport administration.
* Amber Jones is a full-time admissions counselor, beginning work on June 17. She received her bachelor of science degree from FHSU in 2007. She also worked for FHSU's University Relations Office and the Financial Aid Office.
* Nichole Keough is a full-time admissions counselor, beginning work on June 17. She received her bachelor of arts degree in political science from FHSU in 2007 and is working on a master of liberal studies degree.
* Stacey Lang is the Alumni Association's assistant director. She began work on July 9. Lang earned a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish from FHSU in 1995. She was formerly employed by TMP-Marian High School in Hays as the director of admissions.
* Taryn Leiker joined the Small Business Development Center as a full-time administrative business specialist on Feb. 19. Leiker received an insurance license in life, health and personal lines in 2006. She has served as a director of claims in the marketing and retention field at American Family Insurance-Adam Hawley Agency and was an office manager for Realty Executive of Hays.
* Anne Mastrodonato is the complex director for McMindes Hall and Custer Hall, beginning work on May 13. She received a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, Wash., in 2004. Mastrodonato was a service delivery specialist for Big Brothers Big Sisters in Carson City, Nev.
* Jeffrey Mayo is the Unix and networking administrator for the Computing and Telecommunication Center. He began on April 20. Mayo received a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting and a bachelor of business administration degree in computer information systems from FHSU in 2006. Mayo formerly served as FHSU's assistant Unix server administrator.
* Dr. Mohsen Modarres is an associate professor in the Department of Management and Marketing. He begins his position on Aug. 13. Modarres received a master of arts degree in regional economics from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, in 1982; a master of science in resource economics from the University of Nebraska in 1983; a master of business administration degree from National University, San Diego, Calif., in 1986; and a Ph.D. in business administration from Washington State University, Pullman, in 1996. Modarres previously taught at California State University, Fullerton, and the University of La Verne, La Verne Calif.
* Jordan Munsch is telecommunications technician for the Computing and Telecommunications Center. He moved to his new position on May 20. He was previously an electrician senior at FHSU.
* Timothy Murphy is an instructor in the Philosophy Department. He starts his position on Aug. 13. Murphy earned a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from Baylor University in 1997 and is expected to finish a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, in 2007. He has been an instructor for the University of Minnesota, for Mankato State University, Mankato, Minn., and for the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn.
* Justin Nicholes is an instructor in the Department of English for the international Virtual College. Nicholes started his position on Aug. 14. He earned a bachelor of arts in English from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, in 2002, a master of arts degree in teaching English as a second language from Kent State in 2003 and a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from Wichita State University in 2007. Nicholes was a graduate teaching assistant for Wichita State.
* Alexandra Ochs is an admissions counselor, beginning on June 24. She received her bachelor of arts degree in health and human performance from FHSU in 2007. Ochs was involved in FHSU's TigerWild student spirit group, University Activities Board and Renewed Student Ministries.
* Dr. Robert Patrick accepted a full-time position in the Department of Modern Languages as an instructor. He began his position on Aug. 13. Patrick received a bachelor of arts in French from Washington University, St. Louis, Mo. in 1987; a master of arts in French from Middlebury College School, France in 1988; and a Ph.D. in modern foreign languages from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tenn. in 2006.
* Sarah Piper is an admissions counselor, beginning on June 17. She received her bachelor of arts degree in communication studies with an emphasis in public relations and a certificate in leadership from FHSU in 2007. Piper worked as a public relation intern for FHSU's Center for Civic Leadership and as a writer for FHSU University Relations and served as the Public Relations Student Society president.
* Mindy Salmans is an instructor for the Department of Educational Administration and Counseling. She started her position on Aug. 13. She received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Emporia State University in 1979, a master of science degree in educational administration from FHSU in 1995, a district-wide certification from FHSU in 1997 and is completing an Ed.D. in educational administration from the University of Kansas. Salmans has had experience working with public schools as a teacher, librarian, physical education instructor, music instructor, principal, transportation director, athletic director, assistant superintendent, curriculum director and activities and athletic director.
* Stephen Schrass is an instructor for the Department of English for the international Virtual College. He began his position on Aug. 14. Schrass received an associate's degree in liberal arts from J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College, Richmond, Va., in 1985; a bachelor of arts degree in Latin American history from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, in 1987; a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish from Virginia Commonwealth in 1994; a master of arts in Spanish from Middlebury College, Madrid, Spain, in 1997; a certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the School for International Training, Brattleboro, Vt., in 2002; and a master degree of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the School for International Training, in 2006.
* May Schumacher is the assistant director for Student Fiscal Services. She began her position on July 29. Schumacher received associate's degree in accounting from Bunker Hill Community College, Charlestown, Mass., in 1983 and a bachelor of science degree from FHSU in 1987 and is working on a master of liberal studies degree. She previously worked as an administrative specialist for the assistant provost of quality management at FHSU.
* Dr. Robert Scott Jr. is an associate professor of justice studies and chair of the Department of Justice Studies. He started July 1. Scott received a bachelor of arts degree in Canadian politics and public administration from Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, in 1987, a master of science degree in public administration from State University of New York College, Buffalo, N.Y., in 1989 and a Ph.D. in philosophy from Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, in 1993. Scott previously served as the director of the justice studies program for FHSU from 1996-2001.
* Dr. Scott Robson accepted a full-time position in the Department of Communication Studies as an instructor. He began his position on Aug. 13. Robson received a bachelor of arts degree in speech communication from the University of Arkansas in 1999; a master of arts in interpersonal and organization communication from the University of Arkansas in 2001; and a Ph.D. in communication studies from the University of Kansas in 2006.
* Mehran Shahidi moved from a part-time to a full-time position as director of the ESL program. She began her position on June 17. Shahidi received a bachelor of science in business administration from the University of Central Florida, Orlando, in 1977 and a master's degree in international quality management from the University of Marmara in 1998.
* Dr. Jian Sun is an instructor in the Department of Political Science and a research scientist for the Docking Institute of Public Affairs. He began July 29. Sun received a degree in architecture from North China University of Technology, Bejing, China, in 1999; a master's degree in urban planning from the University of Louisville, Louisville, Ky., in 2003 and a Ph.D. in urban and public affairs from the University of Louisville, in 2007.
* Anita Walters accepted a full-time position in the Department of Health and Human Performance as an instructor. She began her position on Aug. 13. She received a bachelor of science in physical education from FHSU in 1990 and a master of science in physical education from FHSU in 1992.
* Shelley Weilert is an interim coordinator of academic advising and career exploration. She began her job on July 15. Weilert received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from FHSU in 1999 and a master of science degree in counseling from FHSU in 2006. Weilert is a member of the Kansas Counseling Association. She also served an internship with FHSU's Kelly Center.
* Christina Wright is a virtual and student services coordinator in the College of Business and Leadership. She began July 1. Wright received a bachelor of science degree in agricultural economics from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, in 2005 and a master of education degree in higher education leadership from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, in 2007. Wright is a member of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, the Association of Student Advancement Programs and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.
* Dr. Bo Yang is a technology and support specialist for the center for teaching excellence and learning technologies. He began July 30. Yang received a bachelor of arts degree in English education from Southwest Normal University, ChongQing, China, in 1996; a master of science in secondary education from Kansas State University in 2001 and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from Kansas State University in 2007.
