CAL STATE

Three Cal State Fullerton police officers are wearing new badges in the wake of recent promotions on the campus police force.

Fullerton resident Lt. Alfredo Molina has moved up from sergeant to operations lieutenant in charge of patrols and investigations. He joined the force in 1978 after serving in Fresno County. He also serves as a range master for the University Police.

Another Fullerton resident, Sgt. John Bedell – a former corporal and CSF graduate – served as a community service officer for three years before becoming a police officer in 1997.

He serves on patrol and has been attached to the North Orange County Special Weapons and Tactics, a regional SWAT team that includes officers from Placentia, Fullerton, Brea, La Habra and La Palma.

Cpl. Thomas McKenzie, who lives in Yorba Linda, has served with the campus police for nearly three years, and has attended Fullerton College. He previously served with the Blythe Police Force.

The university police has 24 sworn officers, who operate with similar responsibilities and authorities as officers in municipal and county law enforcement.

The agency has been accredited by the national Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. since 2004.

DOWNTOWN

Early registrations are suggested for the seventh annual Haunted Fullerton Walking Tours that begin Sept. 12 throughout the downtown.

Tours will be given Wednesdays and Thursdays through Oct. 25.

Among the locations are the landmark Plummer Auditorium, where local researchers have captured anomalies on film; the historic California Hotel, now the Villa del Sol; and the home of the city’s first woman auto dealer.

The tours will stop outside the Fox Fullerton Theatre where guides will tell tales of the former theater manager who still walks the aisles of the old movie palace, and of the strong floral perfume scent that wafts past and

then dissipates.

“This is really about a celebration of local legend,” said Aimee Aul, Fullerton Museum educator and tour coordinator.

The tours leave the museum at 6 p.m. and last two-and-onehalf hours. The walk is not recommended for children under 13.

The cost is $8 for museum members and $12 for the general public. Prepaid reservations are required.

HARBOR

Connie Gayhart and her daughter, Deana, are hoping women will hold on to their summery pink outfits for the first “Dress Pink to Drink” fundraiser to battle breast cancer. The event is set from 4 to 9 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Gayharts’ The Brick Basement, 113 N. Harbor Blvd.

All who attend are asked to wear pink in support of the cause. A $10 cover charge will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Connie said her mother-inlaw and cousin are both in remission from breast cancer.

“One of our dealers in our antique mall is also dealing with cancer issues,” Deana added.

The Gayharts will provide champagne punch, homebaked pink cookies and cupcakes.

“We’ve set $2,000 as our goal,” Connie Gayhart said.
