New physicians join Woodland Healthcare
Daily Democrat

Ten physicians in a variety of disciplines have recently joined Woodland Healthcare to accommodate the county's increasing population, recently determined to be the 10th fastest growing in the state.

Dale Gorski, joins Woodland Healthcare as the new director for the Hospitalist Program. Dr. Gorski has extensive knowledge of program development and leadership from his years of experience as a hospitalist and his own private practice as an internist.

Gorski received his medical education from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific and his Internal Medicine training at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda. Prior to joining Woodland Healthcare, Gorski worked as a hospitalist for Oroville Hospital.

Dr. Virgil Williams joins the Radiology Department. He received his medical degree from Loyola University Medical Center - Stritch School of Medicine in Illinois and also completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology and fellowship training in Ultrasound and Computerized Tomography at Loyola University Medical Center.

Williams has previously worked at the Alameda County Medical Center in Oakland for several years.

Dr. Sally Sample is coming to the facility as a hospitalist. She received her medical

degree from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia and completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Florida. Sample is board certified in Internal Medicine and Palliative Care.

Prior to joining Woodland Healthcare, Sample worked as a hospitalist with Mercy Medical Group. Her previous experience includes operating a solo primary care practice, working in nursing homes as well as in a multi-specialty group.

Dr. Christie Carroll, joins Woodland Healthcare as a dermatologist. Carroll recently completed her residency in Dermatology from Wake Forest University in North Carolina. She received her medical degree from UC Davis.

The focus of her work will be general medical dermatology and she has interests in common dermatological issues such as acne, warts and rosacea along with more complex issues such as lupus. Carroll was the chief resident in her dermatology program and brings excellent technical and personal skills to her practice.

Dr. Emery Chen just recently completed his fellowship in Surgical Endocrinology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He received his medical degree from New York Medical College and completed his residency in General Surgery at UC San Francisco-East Bay in Oakland.

Chen will focus on general surgery and surgical endocrinology, including thyroid cancer, benign thyroid disorders, parathyroid adenoma and cancer, adrenal adenomas, pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors and familial endocrinopathies.

Dr. Jay Curkendall only recently completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver. He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School.

Curkendall received his bachelor's degree in Spanish Literature from UC Santa Cruz. He used his Spanish language skills to teach medical students Spanish and serve as an interpreter. Prior to entering the medical field, Curkendall worked for FEMA and the Department of Chemistry at CSU Fullerton.

Dr. Christopher Holland has just finished an Infectious Disease fellowship at UC Davis Medical Center. He will work in the Internal Medicine Department. Holland received his medical degree from the UC Irvine College of Medicine.

Holland is board certified in Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine. The focus of his work will be treatment and prevention of infectious diseases, including blood-stream infections, pneumonia, complicated bone and wound infections, infections related to international travel and hospital-based infection control.

Dr. Seth Robinson joins Woodland Healthcare after recently completing a Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellowship at UC Davis. Robinson received his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.

Robinson will be the medical director of the ICU and will see patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.

Dr. Kelly Sharrar joins the hospital after recently completing his Family Practice residency at Methodist Hospital of Sacramento. He received his medical degree from the UC Davis School of Medicine.

The focus of his family practice work will be educating his patients on prevention. He is particularly interested in diabetes and adult and childhood asthma.

Dr. Christine Zhang is joining the Oncology Department. She completed her Medical Oncology fellowship at Stanford University last June. She received her medical degree from Capital University of Medical Sciences in Beijing, China. She completed her residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Zhang also received her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from UMDNJ/Rutgers University.

The focus of her work will be to provide individualized and integrated care for cancer patients.
