Anthropologist to talk about mysteries

Aileen Barron, who holds a doctorate in anthropology and archaeology, will discuss “Digging Up the Dirt: The Secrets of Archaeological Mysteries” at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 19 at the Main Library.


The program is in conjunction with “Summer Sleuthing at the Library,” a summer reading program geared to adults and teens who love a good mystery.


Barron is the author of the award-winning mystery, “A Fly has a Hundred Eyes” and “Torch of Tangier.”
She taught for 20 years in the Anthropology Department at Cal State Fullerton.


Her fieldwork took her throughout the world, especially to the Middle East where she spent a year at the American School of Oriental Research in Jerusalem and as director of the overseas campus of Cal State Universities at the Hebrew University. Wednesday market turns 26

The Wednesday Fullerton Certified Farmers’ Market will celebrate its 26th anniversary on Wednesday, Activities will include a free raffle of produce, balloons and a bounce house for the children. The market is located at Independence Park, 801 W. Valencia Drive, and is open yearround, rain or shine, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.


Chamber speakers announced for August


The Fullerton Chamber of Commerce has announced its list of speakers for networking luncheons in August. The weekly gatherings are held at 11:30 a.m. each Tuesday at the Wyndham Hotel, 222 W.

Houston Ave. Carla Jones from California Prudential Realty will address the group on Aug. 14 and Donna Edman of Silverado Senior Services on Aug. 21. Speakers use the time to highlight their business or area of industry. Questions are encouraged. The lunch is $12 for members, $15 for non-members/ guests, Information: 714-871-3100.


Forum planned on “going green”


Businesses that provide environmentally friendly products or services to the community are being sought for an open public forum, “Fullerton: Going Green – One Home at a Time.” The event, sponsored by Neighbors United for Fullerton, will be held on Nov. 5 at the Main Library, 353 W. Commonwealth Ave. NUFF is also looking for knowledgeable speakers to discuss how Fullerton can create “green” homes, and utilize waste management, energy conservation and sustainable household products.

Residents can learn emergency response


Advanced registration is required for the next in a series of Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) classes offered by the Fullerton Fire Department.


The seven-week session begins Sept. 6 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the city maintenance yard, 1580 W. Commonwealth Ave. Registration packets are available during regular business hours at the Fire Department Headquarters, 312 W. Commonwealth Ave.

Library series starts with job skills


Help is on the way to hone job interview skills when the Fullerton Public Library launches its “Town and Gown” lecture series for adults on Sept. 11.


The lectures, which will be offered the second Tuesday of the month, will feature professors from local colleges and universities. All sessions will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Osborne Auditorium, 353 W. Commonwealth Ave. Admission is free.


The Sept. 11 lecture features Patty Malone, a communications professor at Cal State Fullerton. She will discuss interview skills, principles and practices.


Malone, who has been hired by business schools to coach master’s students in preparing for interviews, has worked as a television news anchorwoman in California and Nevada.


Other “Town and Gown” lectures are:
Oct. 9: “Business Ethics” featuring Gary Hartenburg of the CSF philosophy department.
Nov. 13: “Korean Global Diaspora” with Kristine Dennehy of the CSF history department.
Dec. 11: “Five Holiday Stress Busters” featuring Mackenzie Macsween of the CSF Center for Successful Aging.
