ANAHEIM TO BE RECOGNIZED FOR 150 YEARS OF COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AT ANNUAL BLACK CHAMBER GALA

ANAHEIM, Calif. – (August 7, 2007) – The City of Anaheim will be recognized with a 2007 Community Leadership Award at The Black Chamber of Commerce of Orange County’s 16th Annual Awards Banquet. The event will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center on August 25.
Celebrating “Reading, Writing, and Recording…of our History,” this year’s gala will recognize community institutions for reaching significant milestones in Orange County education and history. Vikki Vargas, KNBC’s Orange County Bureau Chief and Cal State Fullerton alumna, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
The Community Leadership Award will be presented to Anaheim for 150 years of creativity, imagination, innovation, and contribution to the community. The award recognizes individuals and organizations in Southern California who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in promoting and enhancing the quality of life that directly and positively affects African Americans and other minorities.
Additionally, to promote history and education, The Black Chamber will team up with the Los Angeles Times’ “Read by Nine” program. Banquet guests will be encouraged to bring a Black History book, which will be donated to public schools across the country.
