Yakima Bears to add top prospect
YAKIMA HERALD-REPUBLIC

The Bears will be getting another high draft choice from the Arizona Diamondbacks within the next couple of weeks.

Wes Roemer, a right-handed pitcher from Cal State Fullerton and the Diamondbacks first-round supplemental pick in this year's draft (50th overall), has signed with Yakima's major league affiliate and has been assigned to the Bears.

Born in Pasadena, Calif., Roemer pitched three seasons for Fullerton, compiling a 30-11 record with 366 strikeouts -- the latter being the career high for the 12-time national champion Titans. He walked only 44.

Last season, as a junior, Roemer was 11-7 with a 3.19 earned run average in 19 starts.

The previous spring, Roemer was named co-National Player of the Year by Collegiate Baseball after going 13-2 with a 2.38 ERA and 155 strikeouts in 155 innings. The other co-player of the year was James Madison's Kellen Kulbacki, now with the Eugene Emeralds.

Roemer is not expected to be activated for at least two weeks, a Bears news release said.
