ASHBURY COURT

The Shum Family – Joseph, Katherine Frederick and Hilda – will honor their mother’s 80th birthday on Friday at the Anaheim Senior Center.


Among the celebrants honoring Mary Shum will be the Anaheim 2007 Senior Olympics Table Tennis Team Award winners, who brought home honors from the National Senior Olympics in Kentucky.


Mary, a big winner in table tennis at the Fullerton Senior Center, introduced the game to the Anaheim seniors.


CAL STATE


Marc Dickey, chairman of Cal State Fullerton’s music department, announced the appointment of three new faculty members.


They include: Jazz pianist Bill Cunliffe, choral music educator Christopher Peterson and pianist Alison Edwards.


Cunliffe, a Grammy-nominated jazz pianist-arrangercomposer, will oversee the jazz small group/combo program and teach jazz piano, arranging and improvisation in the jazz field. He has performed often at the Pasadena Jazz Institute.


Cunliffe is also a Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Award winner.


Peterson comes to CSF from Milwaukee where he was an assistant professor of choral music education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He was also the director of the Midwest Vocal Express, an award-winning, 80-voice men’s a cappella chorus.


Edwards has been a member of the department’s adjunct faculty since 2001. She moves into a full-time position to oversee the piano pedagogy program, coordinate the class piano non-major courses and join the applied piano faculty to teach private piano lessons to piano majors following a nationwide search.


She won first prize at the Carmel Music Society Artist Competition.


CAROL DRIVE


Lorna Hertogh was recently selected as Santiago Canyon College’s 2007 Non-Credit Faculty Excellence Award winner.


The honor is presented to those instructors who teach classes that are not for college credit. She has been teaching non-credit continuing education classes for the past 10 years. Before working at the college, “My teaching philosophy is to learn while I teach,” Hertogh said. “I find that older students are rich with interesting life stories, lessons and experiences.”


CHAPMAN AVENUE


Four Fullerton residents have been cast in the Disney production, “High School Musical,” which is the featured show staged by the Standing Room Only summer theater conservatory at Fullerton College.


Student thespians are Cassie Brady, Fullerton Union High School; Aria Murillo and Nathalie Stecko, Fullerton College; and Ariel Widner, Orange County High School of the Arts.

The Fullerton Library is earning funds from residents shopping online at amazon-.com through the associates program.


Those ordering books, CDs, DVDs, software and other products have a portion of the sale credited to the library.

PRINCETON CIRCLE


Matt Henderson is seeking all alums from Fullerton Union High School Class of ’77 to attend the 30-year class reunion on Oct. 6 in Brea.


The Indians will gather at 6 p.m. at Tut’s restaurant in the Nile Ballroom, Embassy Suites Hotel, 900 E. Birch St.


The cost is $100 per person, $200 per couple – and $125 per person after Aug. 15.
