UC IRVINE UPDATE
BASEBALL PLAYER SEAN MADIGAN NAMED TO PING! FRESHMEN TEAM
UC Irvine freshman baseball player Sean Madigan has been named to the 2007 All Ping! Freshmen Team.
Madigan was named to the designated hitter honorable mention squad by the Ping! Baseball staff.
Madigan was batting .333 with seven doubles and 25 RBI for the season heading into last weekend’s College World Series.
His two-out, infield single in the eighth inning drove in Cody Cipriano with the lone run in UCI’s 1-0 victory over Wichita State in the first game of the super regional at Wichita, Kan.
The UC Irvine baseball team opened the College World Series on Monday by defeating Cal State Fullerton, 5-4.
The series was to continue on Tuesday in Omaha.
UCI is making its first appearance in the College World Series.

NAMED TO ACADEMIC
ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
UC Irvine is represented by 25 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big West Conference Team for spring sports.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must maintain a minimum 3.2 grade-point average, compete one full year at their institution and compete in a least 50 percent of their team’s contests.
A total of 152 student-athletes from the eight member Big West institutions received the honor for the sports of baseball, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf, and men’s and women’s track and field.
UCI’s honorees are: Brian Edick in men’s golf, Victor Lamm in men’s tennis and Ali Borowicz and Jessica Broadfoot in women’s tennis.
Also recognized from UCI are track and field athletes Ricky Barnes, Aaron Corbett, Adrian Doty, Matt Grilli, Ryan Hershey, Storm Huie, Shawn Maghzi, George Morris, Nick Mosey, Eric Nyberg, Lauren Collins, Samantha Costantini, Tayler Cusick, Elaine Gillespie, Amber Gordon, Erinn Kim, Candice Proctor, Corica Rodgers, Jamie Schwab, Kristen
Silverman and Sharitie Williams.
SIX ANTEATER SWIMMERS NAMED MID-MAJOR
ALL-AMERICANS
A total of six swimmers from UC Irvine were named Mid-Major All-American by CollegeSwimming.com.
Junior Chelsea Nagata earned the honor for the third straight season.
Freshman Lyndsay DePaul, the Big West Athlete of the Year, joined Nagata from the Anteater women’s team.
Seniors Eric Reilly and Dan Simonsen and juniors Eddie Erazo and Randall Tom each earned their first ever Mid-Major All-American honors following their trip to the NCAA Championships.
This is the third season of the awards, CollegeSwimming.com names the Mid-Major All-American Team based on mid-major swimmers qualifying for the NCAA Championship meets.
