Four graduates awarded company's scholarships

ONTARIO - Four recent high school graduates each received $500 Monday as part of a scholarship program sponsored by the Daily Bulletin's parent company, MediaNews Group Inc.
The annual Scudder-Singleton Scholarships are meant to give graduates with a parent working for MediaNews Group help getting their college or technical- school careers off to a good start.
Fred Board, president and general manager of the Daily Bulletin, handed the $500 checks to the proud graduates, calling their achievements "awesome."
"Education is such an important thing," he said.
This year's scholarship winners are:
Joseph Crawford. The 17-year-old son of circulation sales development manager Roderick Crawford, Joseph is a Chaffey High School graduate. He will attend Mt. San Antonio College and wants to become a sports journalist.
Ashley Garcia. The 17-year-old Rancho Cucamonga High School graduate is the daughter of customer- account supervisor Pat Garcia. She plans to attend Chaffey College.
Chris Storrusten. The 18-year-old Santiago High School grad is the son of classified-advertising manager Jack Storrusten. He plans to attend Riverside Community College and transfer to either Cal State
Fullerton or San Diego State. He is interested in teaching.Katherine Woods. The 17-year-old Redlands High School grad is the daughter of City News copy editor Rosemary Woods. Katherine plans to attend Crafton Hills and then UC San Diego. She plans to have a career in nursing.
Board said MediaNews Group is passionate about education and that the scholarships are one way to help keep college dreams alive.
"It's just something we can give back to employees," he said.
