This week's best bets: Dance

Raiford Rogers Modern Ballet - Los Angeles choreographer Rogers “transcribes” the feelings and psychology he hears in music into movement. No surprise, then, that he has chosen that word root as a title for a few of his contemporary ballets. Both the new “Transcription No. 2” (to Max Reger's piano transcription of Bach's Passacaglia BWV582), and last year's “Transcription,” which was striking for its slow-moving videos of Los Angeles neighborhoods, will be on the company's upcoming annual show at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex, 8 p.m. June 23. Rogers has another premiere scheduled, too: “Prelude in Green, Adagio in Blue,” choreographed to Corelli and Bach. Tickets are $40-$35. The Luckman is at 5151 State University Dr., on the Cal State Los Angeles campus. Call the box office at 323-343-6600 or go to www.ticketmaster.com.

The Theatre and Dance Department at Cal State University Fullerton is hosting the Limón West Coast summer workshop, "Dancing as a Creative Act," June 18-30. Led by Limón Dance Company artistic associate Roxane D'Orleans-Juste, and former Limón soloist and choreographer Colin Connor, this intensive training program features technique classes, repertory and composition. The workshop is full, but the public is invited to a free, informal showing of sections from Limón's “Psalm” and other works, 3-5 p.m. June 30, in CSUF's new McGarvey Dance Studio. For more information, call Debra L. Noble, assistant professor of dance and theatre, at 657-278-5063.
