OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - With his program in the College World Series for the first time, UC Irvine coach Dave Serrano (sir-AH'-no) felt compelled to give a short history lesson today.
At a pre-tournament news conference he pointed out that his school is UC Irvine, not Cal-Irvine.
The Anteaters hope folks know a lot more about them the next week as Division One baseball's national championship event begins its annual run in Omaha, Nebraska.
Louisville joins Irvine as first-time College World Series entries.
Defending national champion Oregon State and 2006 runner-up North Carolina also are back, marking only the fifth time the previous year's finalists are making a return trip.
Louisville plays Rice in the Bracket One opener tomorrow. Mississippi State meets North Carolina in the second game.
Saturday's Bracket Two games pit Irvine against Arizona State and Oregon State against Cal State Fullerton.
