NCAA Baseball Roundup | CS Fullerton starts fast, blasts UCLA

FULLERTON, Calif. — Wes Roemer pitched a complete game and Evan McArthur drove in three runs to help Cal State Fullerton defeat UCLA 12-2 Saturday in the first game of the best-of-three Fullerton Super Regional in the NCAA Division I tournament.

The winner advances to the eight-team College World Series in Omaha, Neb., which begins Friday.

McArthur had three hits, scored twice and reached base five times. His two-run single in the first inning gave the Titans a 3-0 lead.

Roemer (11-6), who last week was the first-round draft pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks, threw 125 pitches. He gave up eight hits and struck out seven.

UCLA's Tyson Brummett (10-6) pitched 4-1/3 innings, giving up nine runs and eight hits.

Arizona St. rallies

in 9th to win

TEMPE, Ariz. — Brett Wallace's RBI single with two out capped Arizona State's three-run rally in the ninth inning that produced a 4-3 win over Mississippi in the opening game of Tempe Super Regional.

Jason Jarvis delivered a sacrifice fly to tie the score at 3. Ike Davis, Matt Spencer and Tim Smith had singles to load the bases with no outs in the ninth.

Brian Flores (11-1) got the win with two innings of relief after Sun Devils starter Mike Leake left the game. Leake threw 117 pitches.

At Rice 5, Texas A&M 2

Matt Langwell allowed one earned run and struck out seven to help the Owls sweep the Aggies. Rice advances to the CWS for the second straight year.

At Mississippi St. 8, Clemson 5

A day after his home run lifted Mississippi State to one victory, Mitch Moreland's save in a win over the Tigers sent the Bulldogs to the CWS for the first time since 1998.

Moreland combined with closer Aaron Weatherford on four strikeouts and 2-1/3 innings of scoreless relief to secure the win in Game 2 of the Super Regional.

Oklahoma St. 3, at Louisville 2

Keanon Simon's RBI single in the top of the 12th inning was the difference as the Cowboys beat the Cardinals before 4,138 to force a deciding third game today in the Louisville Super Regional.

UC Irvine 1, at Wichita St. 0

Right-hander Scott Gorgen pitched an eight-hit shutout as the Anteaters beat the Shockers in the opening game of the Wichita Super Regional.

Gorgen struck out seven and walked three. He threw 141 pitches.

The Anteaters scored in the eighth inning when Sean Madigan hit a pitch off Wichita State closer Noah Krol's leg. It bounced away, allowing the runner to score from third.

S. Carolina 8, at N. Carolina 5, suspended game

Justin Smoak hit his team-leading 22nd homer and Phil Disher added a key two-run double that left the Gamecocks leading the Tar Heels when the second game of their Super Regional was suspended because of lightning and rain.

The game was suspended with the Gamecocks about to bat in the seventh. The game will resume today.

North Carolina leads the Super Regional 1-0.

Michigan at Oregon St., ppd.

The first game of the best-of-three Corvallis Super Regional between host Oregon State and Michigan was postponed until today because of steady rain.
